A Christmas Carol
Introductions by Rev. Sam Schuldheisz
Though some literary critics contend that A Christmas Carol is not a Christian story, it is hard, after reading it, to see how that is true. While A Christmas Carol is not an allegory, its Christian influences, references, allusions, and themes appear in every stave, and at critical points of the story. On several occasions, Dickens directly quotes Scripture and Christian hymns. Whatever may be said about the spiritual life of Dickens himself, A Christmas Carol is a marvelous example of how the best kinds of stories are the ones that give us a glimpse, or a picture of the true story of Jesus’ birth, life, death, and resurrection.
